The Liverpool Trio - David Lanz, Gary Stroutsos, Walter Gray

Pianist David Lanz, flutist Gary Stroutsos, and cellist Walter Gray, all had unique and
successful music careers before coming together as The Liverpool Trio. Lanz, who
was nominated for a Grammy in 2000, is well known as a top instrumental recording
and concert artist, reaching worldwide prominence with his number one Billboard hit,
Cristofori’s Dream. His unique impressionist style is emulated by countless pianists, and
his compositions and arrangements performed and studied around the world.

A showcase in the Ken Burns PBS documentary Lewis and Clark: Journey of the Corps
of Discovery, led Gary Stroutsos to a command performance at the White House for
President Bill Clinton. Drawing from many traditional cultures, including American Indian
music, Chinese, Cuban and American Jazz, Gary’s internationally acclaimed performances
and world flute recordings express a passion for music without borders.

Walter Gray came into the public’s eye as a founding member of the renowned Kronos
Quartet in the 1970’s. An in demand studio and concert cellist, Walter has performed
throughout the world and has also served as Recording Producer for the London
Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Chamber Orchestra, New Hampshire Music Festival
Orchestra, and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra which he’s been a member for the past
30 years.

In addition to their busy concert and recording schedules, all three men are educators,
and have a passion for sharing their love of music by providing workshops, lectures,
coaching, and private instruction.

Over the past five years, these three friends and musicians have worked together on various studio projects and concert dates, but recently came together as a
trio to perform David’s arrangements from the recording Liverpool...Re-Imagining the Beatles. Their sound is elegant and contemporary, yet retains a beautiful
timeless and classical musicality.

The unique arrangements of these Lennon and McCartney songs make up the majority of the trio's repertoire, but also featured performances of classic Lanz and
Stroutsos’ material, as well as other selected “English Invasion” era hit songs, make up for an evening of compelling music and an outstanding concert experience.

The Liverpool Trio is world class, highly entertaining, and creates the opportunity for the audience to discover the spirit of this music, as they at once go forward
and back in time, in style!
